The Myths of Home Automation

With technology profoundly changing the way we live and work, more and more people are growing accustomed to an automated lifestyle and thus demand for smart home technology is increasing.

Today home automation is slick, sophisticated and affordable but despite this, some homeowners are still just learning about its full benefits.

Here we look to dispel three myths that might be preventing some from truly embracing property automation and control technology:

1.        Myth: Home Automation can only be installed in ‘new-builds’

It’s fair to say that installing home automation technology in new builds is typically a simpler process as it can be planned and incorporated before the build is fully complete however it is completely possible to perform installations in properties of all ages. In fact, we’ve worked on projects within Grade II listed properties and everything in between!

2.        Myth: Home Automation is expensive

There are many ways in which you can automate your property - from how you enter the home to how you consume entertainment, from lighting that switches to suit your mood to a robot that’s programmed to cut the grass.  Our best advice is to start with a simple, yet scalable ‘central’ system that allows you to look at different aspects of automation over time.

You could look at lighting and heating now for instance, but have the option of expanding the system over time. By doing this, it can result in cost savings as it means you don’t have to upgrade or change your systems as your needs change or you want to add more elements of automation to your property.

Also, incorporating greater such tech gives you far greater scope to control costs – such as better manage heating in zones or when you are away from home, to keep on top of your energy rates.

3.        Myth: Home Automation requires a technical brain

There are lots of apps out there controlling various elements of automation but the key to effective home automation is having a centralised control system at the beginning that allows you to link everything together. So while it’s important to have the system installed by a team with strong technical expertise, once this is in place personalising your control system is very simple; you won’t even have to think about it as it will all be done for you.
